December 24, 2015 - The Sustainable Transport Project for Egypt along with its Menoufeya partner NGO "Al-Taqwa" organized an awareness seminar in Menoufeya University, marking its 39 anniversary. The seminar highlighted the STP pilot project that has been implemented in Shebin El-Kom to promote non-motorized transport (NMT).
The STP pilot activities in Shebin El-Kom aim to increase the modal share of walking and cycling by motivating citizens to walk and use their bicycles as an everyday mode of transport.
The seminar was attended by University President Prof. Dr. Moawad EL-Kholy, vice-president for Student Affairs Dr. Adel Mubarak and vice-president for Community and Environment Dr. Abdul-Rahman Kerman, Deans of Faculties, Student Union representatives and officials of EEAA branch in Wasat El-Delta. Eng. Mohamed Fathy, the manager of the sustainable Transport Project, Dr. Mohamed Bayoumi, UNDP Assistant of the Resident Representative, participated in the seminar. Dr. ALi Hozayen, the head of the STP technical consultants, made a presentation that focused on the NMT and its impact on environment and health.
In the Early morning of Friday Dec. 25, the city of Shebin El-Kom witnessed an impressive cycling event organized by Al-Taqwa Association in cooperation with a professional team from Cairo called "4Bike". Dr. El-Kholy participated in the cycling event along with university students and several professors, and deans of faculties.
The two newly-established cycling teams in Menoufeya, One of them for female cyclers called Sabaya El-Menoufeya for biking, took part in the ride held from the Menoufeya University for few kilometers, in which the University President was at the head of the ride from start to finish.
