August 18, 2015 - Sustainable Transport Project for Egypt is requesting proposals from consulting entities to provide consultancy Services for "Estimations and modeling of factors governing emissions of CO2 and other air pollutants from medium and heavy Trucks in Greater Cairo".
The aim of this assignment is to introduce a system to measure pollutant emissions from on-road medium and heavy trucks based on actual observations of emissions in Cairo under real traffic conditions (Studies will be applied only to medium and heavy trucks as classified in US standards). Accordingly, emission factors and the relevant emissions modeling for estimating emissions of greenhouse gases and other primary air pollutants from medium and heavy trucks are to be developed. The measurements shall be conducted using portable "onboard" measurements equipment for representative samples of vehicle categories and routs representing driving conditions in Greater Cairo.
The assignment involves several stages:
Representative sampling of the trucks (for their age and capacity in particular) and traffic conditions to be investigated;
Measurements of their fuel consumption;
Measurements of pollutants under actual traffic conditions using portable "onboard" measurement instruments
Analysis of measurements and emissions modeling against reference parameters;
Simplified, aggregated modeling to obtain an annual assessment of CO2 and other pollutant emissions from trucks, based on reference variables.
Measurements of emissions should be consistent with the system being already used by the STP for private cars and taxis, as results will be consolidated at the end of the project.
The deadline to submit proposals is October 1, 2015, while the bid opening will be October 4, 2015. It is expected to commence the assignment on November 8, 2015 and be completed by June 30, 2016.
